The Midtown High School Jesters will host the Carter/King tournament on December 7, 2024. The Jesters Board of Directors and coaches would like to thank all of our sponsors and community partners for their generous donations and support!

Carter/King Tournament is named in honor of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, whose Carter Center, an archive of historical documents and focal point of peace efforts around the world, is in the neighborhood and Yolanda King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther and Coretta Scott King, who attended Midtown in the 1970’s and dedicated her life to community service and justice causes. We honor the work and idealism of these individuals by naming the tournament after them.

Carter/King is currently a qualifying tournament for the GFCA Varsity State and First/Second Year State, as well as the Individual Events Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky and the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions. Over the last eleven years, teams from Alabama, Florida, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas, as well as all over Georgia, have travelled to Atlanta for Carter/King. 

Our 80-member speech and debate team, also knows as "the Jesters," do not compete at the tournament—they help run it. Carter/King is also supported by the Midtown High School community. Every year, hundreds of community volunteers offer their time and talents to judge at the tournament. In addition to our fantastic community, guest judges for our tournament include members of the Atlanta Board of Education, the Atlanta City Council and Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. We are also grateful for the support of community restaurants and business, who help us feed our judges and guests.
